Can a figure and its dilation also be similar to each other?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not it "can be" but it IS similar. Becuase a dilation is an enlargement or a reduction in size. If it is twice as large, we say that it is a dilation whose scale factor is 2. If the new image is half the original size, then the scale factor will be 1/2. So dilations (preimage and image) are similar.

what we mean by "similar" is that there is a proportion. the image will be in proportion to the preimage.

thank you
