Question

A swimming pool has 25 m by 10 m has a concrete border all around.Find the area of the concrete border if it is 2.5 m wide at the sides and 5m m at the ends

Rectangle ABCD represents the swimming pool.
Rectangle EFGH represents the swimming pool surrounded by the concrete path.
AB = CD = 25 m and BC = DA = 10 m
EF = GH = 25 + 2x5 = 35 m and FG = HF = 10 + 2x2.5 = 15
just tell me that why here we multiply by 2 as 2*5 and 2*2.5?
