Graph each function. How is each group a translation of f(x)=x^2? 1) y=(x+3)^2-5 2) y=1/2x^2-3 Could someone help me how to do these questions? Could you show me an example on the first question and then help me step by step on number 2?
1) it's a shift to the left by 3 and a shift down by 5 2) it's a shift down by 3 and it's half as steep
ok. How would I graph it? how do i know if it is a compression or stretch?
the second one is the only one that compresses... it becomes half the slope at any point in time (basic derivation, but you haven't gotten there yet if you're asking this question). anyways, the first one doesn't do anything on terms of compression or stretching
ok. Could you help me with another question?
sure ask away
Suppose a parabola has vertex (1,-8) and also passes through the point (2,-7). Write the equation of the parabola in vertex form.
