three-eighths times forty equals what number?

OpenStudy (camper4834):

15?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Think about it like... \[\frac{3}{8} \times \frac{40}{1} = ?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First put 40 as a fraction by putting a 1 as the denominator. Then, you have to just multiply horizontally. 3*40=120 That will end up to be 120/8 (which is an improper fraction). We put this as a mixed number after dividing. 120/8=15 The number is then 15 (or also known as the product).
