I have to find the surface area of a cylinder with a base radius of 2yd and a height of 3yd. How do i write my answer in terms of pi? PLEASE HELP!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Surface area of a cylinder = 2(pi)(radius)^2 + 2(pi)(radius)(height) Just substitute radius = 2, and height = 3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, i got the answer 62.83, but how do i do it in terms of pi?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it just 62.83pi?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get 62.83pi?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2*3.14*2^2)+(2*3.14*2*3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Don't use 3.14 for pi..leave pi as pi. what do you get now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 20...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be 20pi?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. So the surface area is 20 pi.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question asks you to leave your answer in terms of pi, which means not to use 3.14 for pi, but rather leave your answer as 20 pi.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay great! thank you so much(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

20 pi square yards.
