WILL GIVFE MEDAL TO BEST ANSWER Melissa burned her hand on the stove. Why did running cold water over her hand make the burn less severe? Answers: 1. Cold transferred to her hand from the water by convection. 2. Cold transferred to her hand from the water by conduction. 3. Heat transferred from her hand to the water by convection. 4. Heat transferred from her hand to the water by conduction. I think the answer is answer #3, is this correct?

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

I agree that heat is being transfered from her hand to the water, by I think it would happen by conduction since there is no bulk flow of matter.

Yeha.. Water and air can both conduct heats.. EVERYTHING CAN conduct heat for that matter but water conducts MUCH MORE than air about (20 to 25 times).. so you get that instant cooling effect, rather than waiting for air to do the job! obviously its not convection.. like @joannaBlackwelder mentioned.. cause there isn't bulk motion!
