Given X = {15, 22, 33, 44, 89, 165, 1025} and Y = {-5, 15, 33, 88, 99, 150, 160, 1025}, which of the following statements is false? X Y = {-5, 15, 22, 33, 44, 89, 99, 150, 160, 165, 1025} X ∩ Y = {15, 33, 1025} Ø (X Y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

confusing huh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second one is correct, the first one seems to have used the Union but i dont see the symbol for it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X ∩ Y is pretty much saying what numbers are in both x and y. The first one looks like it's just all the numbers from X and Y which I believe would be X U Y maybe, but i'm not sure what The third one is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe it reads the empty set of the union between x and y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you i have another one given A = {x | x < 1}, B = {x | x ≥ 5}, and C = {x | x = 5}, match the following items. 1. A B a:{x | x = 5} 2. A C b:{x | x < 1 or x ≥ 5} 3. B C c: Ø 4. A ∩ B d:{x | x < 1 or x = 5} 5. B ∩ C e:{x | x ≥ 5}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well i googled it and it says that the Ø means "empty set" or "no solution"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhmm all i know about that question is i think C=5 A is less than C and B is more than C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so with number 5 B ∩ C would be what is the same, if C = 5 and B = more than or equal to 5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for number 1, I think would be incorrect because A is less than 5, and we don't know if B is less than or equal to 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

number 2 might be correct, because the one for A is write, but for C we know that it's 5, not less than or equal to five. number 3 idek what to tell you on. and number for is kind of the same for 1, the one for A is correct but it's possible that the one for B is inccorect
