Help!!! Medal :) -7y - 17 > 11 Part 1: Solve the inequality above. Part 2: Describe the graph of the solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add 17 to both sides 17+11

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

You want to get y by itself Start by adding 17 to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should get 28 then divide -7y by both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should have y>-4

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

^that isn't correct, you forgot a key step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

well this part isn't correct either "then divide -7y by both sides" you don't divide by -7y... and when you you divide by a negative, the direction of the inequality sign changes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ya forgot that part, so its y<-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thanks guys :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and the graph should be a dotted line too with -4 being the y intercept :)

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

|dw:1383753682115:dw|

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

open circle because it's a < sign (not also equals to) and y has to be less than -4, so arrow going left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok got it thanks :)
