how do you know if a number is written in scientific notation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Typocally it's writeen something like \(10e24\) meaning \(0.18 · 10^{24}\). They can also be written as the latter.

Typically* written*

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

actually 0.18 x 10^24 isnt in scientific notation scientific notation is in the form \[a \times 10^b\] a is a number between 1 and 10, b is an exponent... and example may be \[2.18 \times 10^3 = 2.18 \times 1000 = 2180\] hope this helps
