which of the following equations is parallel to the line passing through A (-2,7) B (-2,-2)
Hi and welcome in open study !;) Look : if we want to have 2 parallel line they should have equal slopes ( m ) . means : m1=m2 and in this question first we should find an equation for second line . use this way : first find slope ( m ) : m=y2-y1/x2-x1 we have 2 point . find y1 and y2 and x1 and x2 from them : A (-2,7) B (-2,-2) So : x1=-2 y1=7 x2=-2 y2=-2 m = -2+2/7+2 = 0/9 = 0 m=0 So the equation for this line is : y=k caz m in before x and if we have 0*x , then x is 0 . so y is d . the equation for second line is : y=d look : if we want to find the equation use this ( i want to proof why y=k ) y2-y=m(x2-x) -2-y = 0(-2-x) -2-y = 0 -y = 2 y= +2 so for and 2 is d or k . k means a number so we have : y=k Got it ?!:) @Apple13
