OpenStudy (amistre64):

how would you describe an axis of symmetry?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we know what the roots of the equation are, the axis is the midpoint between them

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[\frac{r_1+r_2}{2}\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since a root can be determined by the quadratic formula ....\[\frac{-b-\sqrt{b^2-4ac}-b+\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2(2a)}\] \[\frac{-b-b}{2(2a)}\] \[\frac{-2b}{2(2a)}\] \[\frac{-b}{2a}\]

???

OpenStudy (amistre64):

find the roots; find the midpoint (or average) of the roots .... this average is your axis of symmetry.
