2.Okay! Powers given to congress rather than the president are that congress can introduce and revise bills. The president can veto them, but can NOT present them. 3. Checks and balances is a system put in place so that one branch of government can not have too much power. It distributes the governmental powers between the Executive (president), Judicial (supreme court) and Legislative (Congress). 4. Powers given to states are states can regulate things such as marriage, tax, and drug laws. The federal government maintains a universal currency, so that can never be changed. The highest court of law is also at the federal level. 5. A bill becomes a law when it is introduced by congress, and approved by the President. Congress can overwrite a veto, which is when the president rejects a bill. The judicial branch makes sure that the people of the United States are conforming to the law. 6. Cases that go to the supreme court are usually disputes between states, or a request to confirm a verdict in a lower court of law. 11. The 3/5ths compromise was a compromise that went into the U.S. Constitution. It was ratified when it was considered unconstitutional. 12. The constitution can be amended when 2/3 of congress votes to change it. The proposal is sent to the states, and if 3/4 of the states agree, then it becomes part of the constitution!
