Which phrase describes the function of ribosomes? C. Assists in forming proteins. More information: A ribosome is a biological molecule, it is made from RNA (ribonucleic acid). The function of ribosomes is to assemble the twenty specific amino acid molecules to form the unique protein molecule determined by the nucleotide sequence of an RNA molecule. Ribosomes maybe located in many places within a cell, although some are bound to cellular membranes. Ribosomes are responsible for manufacturing the proteins. In each living cell, the information contained in the DNA which is located in the nucleus is "transferred" to a messenger RNA (mRNA). The mRNA leaves the nucleus and travels to the endoplasmic reticulum (or the cytosol) where two ribosomes subunits assemble around it and start synthesizing proteins. This is done by a process called "translation," which is basically translating the mRNA information into an amino acid sequence. The ribosome process is a very complex sequence, but in essence thanks to the ribosomes the actual proteins (needed by the cell) are assembled. C is correct, indeed! :) Just remember, any time you hear the word Ribosome, think proteins.
That is so helpful @blondiemed246 !! Thanks for that tip!
2 months later and I just now log on and see this, but thank you!! It makes me so happy to be able to help at all! :) @Korey_Minter
