Can someone please reword this sentence to make it sound better?

Rowling is trying to point out that in order to truly know a person’s character, you must observe how they treat those beneath them in class or rank or status because if that is how they treat the people lower than them then it can only get better from there up.

Rowling is intent on expressing that in order to truly and effectively understand one's character, their treatment to people with lower class or status should be observed.
