What is the sum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hartnn (hartnn):

can you factor x^2+5x +6 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah? (x+3)(x+2) right?

hartnn (hartnn):

yup :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How about the top? Is it -2(x-3)

hartnn (hartnn):

so we want to make all the denominators as (x+3)(x+2) and as common 1/(x+2) already has (x+2) so, multiply and divide by x+3 there...

hartnn (hartnn):

-2 (x-3) as final answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ -2(x-3) }{ (x+3)(x+2) }\]

hartnn (hartnn):

you got -2x +6 ? i got 2x+6 in the numerator...

hartnn (hartnn):

(x+3) + (x+2) + 1 = 2x +6 = 2 (x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So am i right?

hartnn (hartnn):

no....you got -2 (x-3) instead of 2(x-3)

hartnn (hartnn):

you got how it is 2(x+3) ?
