The functions f(x) and g(x) are described below. f(x) = 32x + 8 g(x) = 32x - 9 The graph of g(x) is obtained by shifting down the graph of f(x) by _____ units.

This is what I use: https://www.desmos.com/calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But I'm not sure what the correct answer is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's 1 but i'm not sure . . .

OpenStudy (phi):

both f(x) and g(x) are lines. at x=0, f(0)=8 and g(0)= -9 g(0) is 17 below f(0) or -17 shift

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh so the answer is 17?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. f(x) shifted down by 17 will lie on top of g(x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, thanks.

OpenStudy (phi):

notice if you start with f(x) = 32x + 8 and shift down by adding -17 f(x) = 32x + 8 - 17 you get 32 x -9 which matches g(x)

Ohh
