Medal Awarded! Let y = 4t + 2 be a linear function representing the distance from home for an ant t minutes after starting out from a location near its home. What does the number 4 represent in this function? The ant is 4 feet from its home after t minutes. The ant started out 4 feet from its home. The ant is crawling at 4 feet per minute. The ant is moving 4 feet every 2 minutes.

what do you think and why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is The ant is crawling 4 feet per minute because it is speed and not distance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly. We know that we have to have units of distance (feet) in order to get the right solution; the "4" is multiplied by t which has units of time (minutes), so "4" has to be in units of \[ \frac{feet}{minute}\] which means that it's a speed ^_^ Good job!
