The physical and chemical properties of a substance are used to identify the substance and to see how it will behave in the presence of other substances. 5. Which type of property can be measured without changing the substance into a new substance? A. physical property B. chemical property

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A physical property would be my answer because it's more of an observation. In other words, you wouldn't have to change it into another substance.

i answered this already...^^^

OpenStudy (monkey_sun):

in order to measure a chemical property you must take at least some of the sample and try to make it have a chemical reaction of some sort. That reaction if there is one will have produced a new substance usually with a new physical property which you can readilty observe. This is how you know it had that chemical property which allowed the reaction to occur. The physical property can just be observed without making a change. sometimes as simple as looking at it and seeing what color or texture. Sometimes you do a physical test like scratching it on a known sample to see if it makes a scratch. You know, Physical stuff. so the answer is B.
