for the following dataset, describe in two sentences the transformation necessary to linearize the data. x- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 y- 0.7, 1.3, 1.8, 2.1, 2.3

Note that \(\Delta y\) decreases. We, then, need a function that decreases slope with increasing value. What are some possible functions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no idea, this confused me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, think about it, what functions could you use to 'linearize' data? \[\hat Y=\sqrt{Y}\\ \hat Y=\log(Y)\] Try a few; see which work out best. I think this question is actually not easy without graphing, so you might also want to do that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so if the correlation is .978, I have to figure out what will make it higher or lower?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Higher, since we want a better correlation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I just have to come up with numbers that will make it higher?

Well, yes, essentially.
