How did the acquisition of the Louisiana Territory lead to conflict?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Between whom?

?

It could lead to a lot of different kinds of conflict. It was a conflict in Jefferson's mind with the Constitution because he was a strict constructionist. It could be a conflict between nations as well.

I believe its asking about conflict within the nation

Well as a little background, American citizens had just gotten out of the hands of a tyrannical government (the English.) So they expected the United States government power to be restricted to what was expressly given to them by the Constitution. The acquisition of land was not a right given to the government by the constitution. The only reason Jefferson went through with it was to remove the French presence in the area.
