Why the colour changes when bromine is added 2 a alkene?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

color changes from ---- to -- do u know ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it forms alkane but how

OpenStudy (anonymous):

colourless actually

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

what is color of Br2 do u know ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

orange colur yes i know

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yaaa it will be reddish-brown when u treat with alkene it is no more Br2 but it form Bromo compounds with alkenes and hence turns to colorless

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bromo compounds are colourless?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

not all bromo compounds are colorless :) and i can say the color change is dude to decrease of concenteration of Br2 as it is involved in the reaction :) at certain time interval there will not be any Br2 so it looks colorless most of the time
