3. What role do you think television plays in the transmission of popular culture? How have TV shows affected pop culture in the United States and elsewhere?
All I have so far is Advertisements play a large role in transmission of pop culture through television. Many people see the person they want to be because they want more attention and popularity.
@e.mccormick @MikasaAckerman please help me. i need to finish this in an hour and a half.
please help me! it is an AP class and i am behind in the class.
@esshotwired I have some points 1) Television actually transmits the popular culture prevalent in hollywood/LA to every where in the US, eventually it has permeated everywhere in US and its influence has now crossed national borders. This is evident in the popularity of hollywood movies and US music genres around the world, and a large part of the earnings of movies come from outside US.
i am confused a bit. i understand it but i do not get how that would effect the pop culture.
It's helping in spread and popularity of the pop culture
oh ok. would my point at the beginning work too?
yes, it's also a good point.
To get more points, read more about pop culture
ok thanks. could you help me with one more thing?
yes
4. How do television shows reflect the influence of globalization? Provide examples from the clips that show the influence of exchange of different cultures on U.S. society or the impact of U.S. society on other cultures? I haven't got anything for this one yet because I am confused about the question.
The clips it is talking about is o 1950s and 1960s: I Love Lucy o 1970s: Partridge Family o 1980s and 1990s: Full House o 21st century: Desperate Housewives I had to choose tv shows for each of the categories.
oh I have something, tv shows these days not only have US citizens as characters but many a time prominent roles are played by non natives such as Indians, Europeans. This directly shows the effect of globalization and multitude of cultures in US
Oh! That helps A LOT! Thanks so so much! When I finish answering those two questions, will you check them and tell me if I got them right?
I have not heard about these clips except desperate housewives, I have no idea how do they show influence of US culture or on US
Would it help if I gave you information on them?
@esshotwired you can post them here, I may come later and check them out. Actually I have to take a test next week and I'm studying :)
Oh sorry. I will let you study and leave them up for you then.
np :)
One mistake people make is thinking that Pop only means Popular as in it became popular and is therefore Pop. One other nature of Pop is that it was manufactured by an industry to be popular and marketed to ensure this popularity. The best examples of this are in TV and Music where a small group of people are in charge and their choices are broadcast out to the country and world. Each of the shows you have clips of is a reflection of American culture, but shaped to be a sitcom (situational comedy) or comedy-drama. Because of this, they do not portray the reality of American culture. Still, they influence the world view of America because people outside the USA don't see our news, our cities, and so on. What people out there get is our television shows.
Ohh! Thanks for the info. I was gone for lunch, but I should be done in less than an hour because I am multitasking.
