Need feedback on an essay. Daniel Defoe’s novel, Robinson Crusoe, is quite enjoyable when read casually, yet it’s much more rewarding when given a close reading. To fully appreciate it, one needs to know what kind of man Defoe was and why he wrote the book. If the reader knows Defoe was a deeply religious man, the subtlety and complexity of the narrative becomes much more noticeable. One realizes that everything in the book is written for a purpose. The book is a masterpiece because of its extraordinarily successful use of structure as a means of conveying its purpose.
