What property of water causes cohesion, adhesion, and water as a solvent?

The hydrogen bonding between water molecules is responsible for those three properties. Because the hydrogen bonding in water is particularly strong, it likes to stick to itself, other things. And when used as a solvent (in fact, it is the best solvent and nicknamed "the universal solvent"), it's electrostatic nature allows it to easily disassociate solutes.
