You live in the beautiful little town of Eulerville and go to the wonderful high school of Eulerville High. The town council has noticed an increase in the population which means that a larger school may be needed. The current population of the town is 10000 people while the population of the school is 700 students. According the a recent study by the town council and school board, construction of a new school will need to begin when the population of Eulerville reaches 16500 people.

If the annual growth rate of the town is 3.5% and the year is 2008, in what year will construction of a new school need to begin?

OpenStudy (abbles):

The town needs to grow 6500 people so divide that by the percent to find however many years.

Doesn't seem like it could be that easy. We learned in class to create a formula. Would that be a good idea here?
