It depends, there are A LOT of ways to make a cyclic compound! But, a very useful mechanism for the making of cyclic compounds is diels-alder reaction, which isa conjugate addition reaction of a conjugated diene to an alkene. Are you familiar with diels-alder reaction mechanism?
