Here is what I think. Since the line creates midpoints which divide AB and BC evenly, we have a 1:2 ratio for side lengths BD and BA as well as BE and BC.

Knowing that, we see that we have similar triangles, and can also say that side DE must be 1/2 of AC.

DE=AC*1/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thus 2x+1=15 x=7. Don't take my word for this, I haven't done geometry in almost 3 years.
