suppose a parabola has an axis of symmetry at x=-7, a max ht of 4 and also passes through the point (-6, 0). Write the equation of the parabola in vertex form. HELP! I have several of these to do and I have to show my work. If someone can help me with one, I think I can do the rest myself. PlZ?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

this isn't too bad because they give you the vertex of (-7,4) \[y = a(x-h)^{2} +k\] (h,k) = (-7,4) plug in given point (-6,0) for (x,y) then solve for "a"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a=4?? thats what i got.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

almost...notice parabola will be opening down since max is given , this implies "a" should be negative right?

gotcha. thanks for the help
