If two dies are toced together what is the probability of having sum of 5 as the outcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, there are 6 possible numbers that can come up on the first die and 6 possible on the second die. How many total possible combinations are there for the 2 dice?

how many ways are there to make 5 with two dice: 1+4 2+3 there are 2 ways to obtain a sum of 5. now how many total possible outcomes are there, use your equation for this?

ps, order Doesn't matter

The problem with that approach is that you have a higher choice of rolling a 2 and 4 than a 3 and 3.....To get 2 and 4 you can roll a 2 then a 4 or a 4 then a 2...To get double 3's you have to get a 3 followed by a 3. There are 36 possible rolls (6 possibilites on 1st die x 6 on the 2nd). Out of these combinations, 4 sum to 5: 14 23 32 41 4 / 36 ..... and then you just simplify that fraction.
