so let's rearrange it and group the terms next to each other that have the same base. x^7 (y^3) x^8 (y^2) now looks like: (x^7) (x^8) (y^2) (y^3) every time we are multiplying terms that have the same base we just add the powers together, i'll do the x terms to show you then you do the y terms: x^(7+8) becomes x^15
