Many Americans justify our bombing of Japan by saying that they bombed us first, at Pearl Harbor. Our bombing greatly strengthened our position in the war, and it struck fear into the hearts of our enemies. This is not to say that the dropping of the bomb was morally and ethically right, but it happened, and nonetheless, we must justify the government's decision in order for some of us to sleep at night.
