For each event, write two paragraphs. The first paragraph should explain details of the event and describe why it represents a specific U.S. foreign policy approach. The second paragraph should discuss U.S. motivations for the event. This is a paragraph I have to write for history and I don't understand what it means..

I don't understand the second paragraph by the way

This is essentially a simplified version of what we do in my APUSH essays. Basically, they want you to choose an event, and how it describes an approach by the United States government in their foreign policy. Foreign policy is defined as the way that the United States goes about their relations with other nations. I guess a terrible example would be World War 2 and the imperialistic attitudes of the time. Paragraph 2 would be analyzing what would cause the United States to do what they did, that resulted in the event. Bringing back my terrible example, paragraph 2 would be analyzing what would cause the United States to be imperialistic, and how that would cause World War 2.
