How to find lengths of segments?

Im confused I mean do I take the 3x+5 and put 3x+5 = 2x+1

Did they give you the coordinates of points or the distance between them ?

Were you given the length of segment BE?

We need to use the Segment Addition Postulate from Geometry to do this problem.

And, I don't understand why the segment with length (3x + 5) is beneath segment BE.
