Here is a distribution of 6 observations, sorted in ascending order: 3.7, 8.2, 9.9, 11.3, 15.6, 17.3 The mean of this distribution is 11. What is the value of ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldnt it be -10.1 since you said add that up ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your question makes no sense. What is the value of what?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

that is what I was trying to figure out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, the mean of those numbers is 11. What else do you need? The median???

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

there is no mode

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it ask for the value but the value doesn't really make since cause you cant read it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They have to tell you what they want the value of. You can't just say "what is the value?"

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Is this the entire question...written exactly like what you posted ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Often they will give you 5 of the 6 observations leaving one blank, then tell you that the mean is 11 and then ask you to figure out the value of the missing observation. But here i see all of your observations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello when i tried to ask the question with the value it didn't go through so the value wont show up on here cause its written different..

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

written different ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah like this 6 on top of a 3 looking thing and then under that is like a i=1 and then (x1-x) but there is a line over the second x|dw:1384267575829:dw|
