find a quadratic equation with the roots -1+4i and -1-4i. please help

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

You can simply put (z-(-1+4i))*(z-(-1-4i)) and make some simplifications.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would I do that...I really suck at this and just trying to pass this class

OpenStudy (math&ing001):

I don't wanna give you all the answer but this should make it easier:\[(z-(-1+4i))*(z-(-1-4i))=z ^{2}+2z+(1-4i)(1+4i)\] The rule for simplifying the last term is \[(a-b)(a+b)=a ^{2}-b ^{2}\] With \[i ^{2}=-1\]

thank you

you're welcome !
