need help please? explain why most people would find 24x^2-23x-12 more difficult to factor than 23x^2-18x-5

i idk how to go about this?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

It's because the in second trinomial 23 can only be factored as 23 and 1, and -5 can only be factored as -1 and 5 or -5 and 1. That makes it easy to factor by trial and error since there are only a few guesses. In the first trinomial, 24 can be factored as 24 and 1, 12 and 2, 8 and 3, and 6 and 4. Also, -12 can be factored in many ways. That makes factoring the trinomial harder because there are many more possibilities of solutions that need to be checked.

ok i see that makes sense

great
