Johnny wants to ship a package to his friend. A shipping company charges 2.49 for the first pound and 1.24 for every addition pound if it cost johnny 11.17 to ship the package , how much did his package weigh?
Okay. so the first step is to gather all of the important numbers. In this case it is all of them.
If you subtract how much they charge for the first pound. You will get 8.64, then divide that by how much they charge for every additional pound. You will come up with 8lbs I believe.
No you come up with 7.
thank you that really helped me you both are very smart. I wish u were my teacher!! @m&msdoodle @Maryok
thank you fro caring about my answer being correct @m&msdoodle
I was going to tell you the same thing but @Maryok beet me. :)
@m&msdoodle sorry I didn't tag u in the one at the top I meant too
That's fine.
Ooops. My apologies, When I had divided it I got 7, but didn't know for sure if you were suppose to add in the first pound.
Thanksss @m&msdoodle and @Maryok
I still believe that it is 8.
No problem I bet we are both glad we could help.
If you divide 11.17-2.49 you come up with 8.64. Then you divide the 8.64 by the additional 1.24 they charger for every extra pound you come up with 7, and that is for the additional pounds. you have to also include the first pound you subtracted off.
\(2.49+1.24x=11.17\) Solve for x and there we go.
sorry subtract. 2.49 from 11.17.
thank you!!! @austinL
