what would be an example of how the free press has affected the course of U.S. history.
In many cases, the free press has affected many events over the course of the United States' history. Often times it is the press that over exaggerates events and starts a snowball effect, making things sound worse than they actually are. Blowing things up into a national event. This has effected a lot of decisions by Congress, and effected a lot of decisions made by the people themselves. Do you need specific examples or is that okay?
it's asking me to find an example but i think this is okay.
Well if you need one, before the freedom of the press was in the constitution, or the nation at all, the Boston Massacre was a prime example. Only about 5 people died in total, but the Sons of Liberty used big exaggerated words to make it sound like 500 people were killed in the most brutal and inhumane of fashions. If you need an example of after the Constitution, the start of the Spanish-American war was somewhat a result of the actions of the press, spreading the story and exaggerating it to gather support within the population
