if 3 + i lies in the first quadrant then -3-i appears in ____ quadrant ??

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

think of i as the y axis so if (3,1) lies in quadrant 1, what does (-3,-1) lie in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the prob idk either they are talking about x,y normal quadrants or are there any other quadrants :/

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

ok when we talk about the complex plane, think of instead of a point (x,y) we have (x,i*b) but really you dont need to think about the i. so the number 3+i = (3,1) on the complex plane, so -3-i = (-3,-1) and is in the third quadrant.
