Given the functions f(x) = - 4x - 1 and g(x) = 2x + 4, which operation results in the smallest coefficient on the x term? Addition Subtraction Multiplication Two operations result in the same coefficient

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiplication as it gives you -x^2-18x-4

i think it might be D though, because when you subtract and add you get the same answer and its smaller than multiplication

How come? If you add you get -2x+3 -18<-2 If you substract you either gat -6x-5 or 6x+5 depending what you substract from what both -6 and 6 are bigger then -18

oh okay i see what i did wrong .
