Help choosing an essay topic.

I was thinking about writing about the texting community and its slang. For example, the ttyl,lol,etc.

What I have to do is;

My assignment is to write scientific informative essay assignment using an approach loosely based on the scientific method to inform readers about a discourse community. You will choose a group of people with unique communication practices (cultural, profession, or otherwise) and analyze the group’s communication.

Need ideas and examples on this essay. Its for my course in ENC 1101. Thanks so much for your help if anyone can.
