OpenStudy (gk99):

How to write in third person without using "be" verbs? For example: Harper Lee, in her novel To Kill a Mockingbird, gives us many examples of heroes, one of which was unexpected. How can I eliminate "was" in this sentence?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One way is that you can add the detail to the subject as an adjective. For instance: Harper Lee, in her novel "To Kill a Mockingbird", gives her readers many examples of unlikely/unexpected heroes. Try to exclude words that group you within the audience "us" because you are using first person point of view.
