OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

Is R the set of real numbers. Consider the cartesian product R x R = R2 I don't understand this so much...Is all possible values of the set multiply by all possible values of the same set? Thanks!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

They are not multiplying. It is the Cartesian product. Little different: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_product

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

Thanks! so this cartesian product is only valid to sets?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, a set can contain one number... so it can be used to do regular multiplication. So it is more a way of extending multiplication onto sets of any size.

OpenStudy (jpsmarinho):

Thank you so much for the explanation!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

np. have fun!
