Using complete sentences, explain how to find the average rate of change for f(x) from x = 4 to x = 7.

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

average rate of change is change in y divided by change in x or, in this case, change in f(x) divided by change in x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 7 divided by 4?

OpenStudy (phi):

not that simple. find f(7) - f(4) that is change in f(x) find 7-4 which is 3. that is the change in x now divide: (f(7) - f(4))/3 btw, f(7) means replace x with 7 in your equation, and do the arithmetic to find a number.
