OpenStudy (kailee1423):

I know that this doesn't belong in the Literature group, but there isn't a Spanish group. What is the difference between el and la? And how do you know when to use them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

el would be used before masculine words and la is used before feminine words.

OpenStudy (kailee1423):

But what does el libro (book) and la carpeta (folder) have to do with being masculine and feminine?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well they both mean the but when it comes to feminine words and masculine words there is a certain word for them and its el and la

OpenStudy (kailee1423):

So you could say el libro or la libro and it would mean the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
