A deck of 26 alphabet cards market A through Z is shuffled, and 2 cards are dealt. What is the probability that the cards are X and Y?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well those are two cards out of 26 so it would be 2:26 but that can be reduced to 1:13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13/26 is the answer because half of 26 happens to.be the 13 so 13/26. Is the probability of the X and Y

OpenStudy (kropot72):

The probability that the first card dealt is X is 1/26. The probability that the second card dealt is Y is 1/25. The probability that the cards are X and Y is \[\frac{1}{26}\times \frac{1}{25}=you\ can\ calculate\] Note that the same result is obtained if Y was dealt first and then X was dealt next.
