Which property would you use to solve the equation h/10 = 3.9 for h? Need help finding answer.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Any ideas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think of how to isolate h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so???... if 10is diving h, how it should pass to the other side?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

$$\huge \frac{h}{10} = 3.9$$

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would I multiply? That would make it the property of Division? I'm not sure, the way I memorized them was that the property was backwards from the actual thing to use...

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

You memorized them incorrectly...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would it be the Property of Multiplication?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

You use the idea of "balance" to solve equations.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Yes, the Property of Multiplication. Multiply both sides by the same nonzero number.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

If you are going to try and memorize math use the most obvious and natural names to memorize what you are intending to do :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I get that. Thank you so much, you were allot of help! I'll fix that in my notes and then memorize the right things.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Thanks for trying to understand.
