Mitosis happens in body cells or somatic cells for cell growth and repair while meiosis occurs in gametes or sex cells during reproduction. Keep this note stuck in your head.

Mitosis is the process in which a cell partitions itself equally to form two daughter cells. Meiosis is the process in which a cell divides into four daughter cells, each having only 23 chromosomes rather than 46. Mitosis is integral to cellular growth, repair and general reproduction, while meiosis is integral to gamete production.
