Evaluate x + y when x = –18.2 and y = 3.6 A. –21.8 B. 14.6 C. 21.8 D. –14.6
can you try the problem?
no
y not
ok ill try
so plug in. -18.2 + 3.6 =? it can be tricky when adding negatives.. here's what i do.. i know that the answer will be negative since 18.2 is way larger than 3.6 and since that's negative, i already know that the answer is negative.. so do this 18.2-3.6= ?? see what i did there? i arranged it so that it's easier to solve.. what do you get with that? and does that make sense?
is it c
no... try solving with what i just told you
try again :) read carefully what i said, and let me know if it makes sense
its d or b
i think d
good you narrowed it down... but, reread what i wrote... there's a very obvious hint there.
ok
can you please show me how you got it? once u understand it, all problems like this will be really easy :)
it's d
right?
how did you get that? or can you explain why you think the answer is d?
im not sure i just learned this a few weeks ago and i wanted someone to double check
you still there
okay, well in that case... yes, you are correct. but please reread what i told you... :) it will help a lot. that simple trick always works. just make sure to remember where to put the signs and basically... you rearranged it to 18.2-3.6 and got 14.6 since it was originally a large negative number, you already know the answer is negative. so BAM! just add the negative and there's your answer. -14.6 hope that makes sense :)
haha yeah i'm still here. i was just typing
okay i have a few more
Which is an expression to model the following situation: When Jill woke up, the temperature was –3°C. By noon, the temperature had increased by 8°C. What was the temperature at noon? A. –3 – 8 B. 3 – 8 C. –3 + 8 D. 3 + 8
increase means addition what do you think? original temperature + increase
?
okay, same as the earlier problem. so i basically just told you to plug in. what is the original temp and what was the increase? sub that into the equation i wrote above ^^
can you just tell me the answer
ahh sorry i can't do that... it's against the code of conduct.. but i basically did tell you the answer... all you have to do is read what i wrote and read the problem and plug in
is it c
i bet it's c
forget it c'ya
that would be correct. but next time, please try to solve before asking straight up for an answer. i told you everything you needed to know so it was simple.
@iheartfood is right. Do not come to here to GET answers, instead come here to learn. Do NOT expect us to give you direct answers. And its against the code of conduct so think twice next time before you blindly ask for answers.
thanks @AravindG :) we're here to help you understand the concept so by learning, you'll be able to find the answer easily the next time you get a similar question
