it can be tricky when adding negatives.. here's what i do.. i know that the answer will be negative since 18.2 is way larger than 3.6 and since that's negative, i already know that the answer is negative..

okay, well in that case... yes, you are correct. but please reread what i told you... :) it will help a lot. that simple trick always works. just make sure to remember where to put the signs

and basically... you rearranged it to 18.2-3.6 and got 14.6

since it was originally a large negative number, you already know the answer is negative.

so BAM! just add the negative and there's your answer. -14.6
