Easy way to remember for you, without having to struggle, is rvw a long time before you have the test, or whatever you are preparing for.
Like do it once or 3 times per day.

$$\frac{(x-h)^2}{a^2}+\frac{(y-k)^2}{b^2}=1$$
if   $a^2 = b^2$  it is a circle

if   $a^2 \ne b^2$  it is an ellipse

if   $a^2$ or $b^2$ (but not both) is a negative, its a hyperbola

if one of the terms x or y terms is completly missing, it a parabola
